For the June item of the month we are stretching the limits... of our sawmill. Since our method of cutting was historically based on the veneer industry, our entire system focuses on the typical veneer length footprint. It is fairly rare to find a sheet of veneer that is over 12' in length. Accordingly, twelve feet is the max we can fit down the green chain and the max we offer in large volumes... however when the urge moves us we can find a way to stretch our limbs.
For this IOM we are happy to offer a special 16' long Red Elm slabbed into beefy 2 1/2 inch pieces.

The long lengths of this set make capturing the full slab in a single photo very difficult. Above are some composite images of two of the cleaner slabs. We have photos like this of all of the pieces, so please drop us a line to get more info.
Pieces 2, 3, and 4 have been tallied as 13' due to some end checking on the butt end of the pieces (that's still longer than our norm!). The rest of those slabs are predominately clear and show nice cathedral grain patterns. There's also some small bark inclusion, especially in pieces 3 and 4
(see photo of #3 above for an example). These specks add some character to the set and cause the grain to make some neat curves.
There are some cracks in this log that would have to be dealt with using a filler or butterfly, but the look would be very attractive. The second half of the log also has some large solid knots that make the grain swirl and ripple - Great focal point for a table top or piece of furniture!
The price for the entire set of Red Elm is $4,500. --- That's over 600 bdft and enough wood to do a complete furniture suite. Or, contact us for slab by slab pricing; we are willing to split the set, but will try to do so while keeping some continuity - Bookmatches are best!!
