HORIZON'S INDIVIDUAL SELECTIONS OF CROTCH MATERIAL

Keeping the woodworker's perspective in mind, we only measure the solid, usable wood around the crotch. Each individually graded piece falls into one of three catagories:

A+
The "cream of the crop". These special pieces have a perfectly straight feather figure, with no defects, and are flat as a board. The A+ grade may have a few minor surface checks, but overall they represent beautiful, clear wood.

A
A Grade represents nice Feather grain pieces which may contain solid knots or some pith wood near the figured area. These pieces may also have surface checking which would need to be filled when the crotch wood is used. The A Grade pieces still have that special unique crotch figure, but may need a bit more "cosmetic" work in the creation of your project.

B
B Grade is the horizontal grain piece which is taken from the outside of the crotch… still gorgeous material, but viewed as secondary in demand to the “feather” figure of the center pieces. An occassional feather figured piece may be graded as 'B' if there is some defect which could lower the yield for the woodworker.
