We were excited about the great selections we featured during our 2007 Item of the Month displays, and look forward to the treasures that may turn up during 2008. To start the year off on the right foot, we've chosen to showcase a fantastic set of Curly Steamed Soft Maple. There are a few things going for this special collection that make it really exceptional. First of all, the curl and color is superb. There is so much visual depth in these pieces it feels like you might fall right into them. Not only that, but the widths are in the hard-to-find 19 to 25 plus inch range making the collection suitable for all sorts of special applications: dining table, bar top, stair treads, new side panels for Santa's sleigh (which we hear is presently suffering from an excessive amount of wear and tear).
One of our seasoned buyers found this treasure while making log purchases in New York State. The exterior of the log hinted at the possibilty that it might contain some interesting figure. It wasn't until opening it up on our sawmill, that we discovered only the 3 flitches featured here were worthy of special recognition earning them a listing as "Item of the Month".
